I disagree with the plan to buy back mortgages. As a conservative I am appalled at how far we have strayed from the conservative values of personal responsibility that have been the hallmark of the conservative party. Although I feel very bad for these people that over extended themselves. They chose to take the risk to purchase a home that they might not be able to afford. To now bail them out of the situation that they created is wrong. I understand that they were encouraged to over extend themselves by the greedy mortgage lenders but, they are ultimately responsible for their decision. As a parent I had to teach my children about personal responsibility which was a very hard but necessary thing to do. Now it is time that irresponsible adults have to pay the same consequences of their irresponsible actions. That my friend is "Tough love".
This also applies to the greedy lenders that gave out those risky loans. They too should pay and not be BAILED OUT!! The congress should be ashamed of themselves for not listening to the American people when they said not to go with the bailout. Then to add all the pork to the bill, Unbelievable gall! I believe the congress will pay come election time. Americans are sick and tired of electing officials that make promises to be fiscally conservative and reduce the size of government and as soon as they get into office they do whatever they want with no regard to their constitutes, and spend, spend spend.
Senators McCain and Palin, GET MAD and let the American people see your outrage of such irresponsible behavior by the congress and the lenders. Go after them; promise to prosecute those responsible for not warning the American people and taking advantage of the situation. That is what Conservative Americans, NO; ALL AMERICANS want to see in their leader.
By the way, I am not a rich American. My husband (a college professor) and I (a secretary) make under $100k a year. We are not rich, but we have to pay our mortgage and our bills and live hand to mouth during these very lean times with inflation rising much faster than our meager salaries can keep up. No one is there to bail us out of these tough times nor should they be, we will make it on our own and be the better for it. It is NOT government's job to save us. That will make us a welfare country and Ronald Reagan would turn over in his grave if he could see that happening now.
